Item #1288 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Dean Rusk.

Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

[Rusk, Dean]

No place of publication stated: No publisher stated, 1963. No edition stated.

Single sheet, 8 1/2 x 11 inches (216 x 280 mm).

SIGNED by U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk in ink below his facsimile signature. A broadside on parchment-like paper of the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, signed in facsimile by Rusk, British Foreign Secretary Lord Home, and Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko, with President John F. Kennedy's facsimile signature below Gromyko's. The treaty banned testing of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosions underwater, in the atmosphere, or in outer space.

This copy carries what, at first glance, seems to be an oddity: a First Day of Issue cancellation, postmarked Princeton, NJ, March 14, 1966, with an 8-cent stamp featuring Albert Einstein. But maybe not so odd after all: Einstein, a Princeton resident, strongly supported a ban on nuclear tests. Similar items appear on the market from time to time. But besides this copy, we have not located any signed by any of the four original signatories to the treaty. RARE.

CONDITION: Top corners chipped, a few pin holes. A Very Good copy. Item #1288

Price: $450.00
