Hartigan and Rivers With O'Hara

New York: Tibor de Nagy Gallery, 1959. First Edition, First Printing. 8vo (9 1/2 inches / 240 mm tall), single sheet folded to create 10 panels. Some soiling to the panels along with general handling wear. A Very Good copy of an uncommon exhibition announcement. An imaginative announcement for an exhibition of paintings by Grace Hartigan and Larry Rivers and poems by Frank O'Hara. This glossy booklet unfolds to form a 10-panel announcement for the show and features a poem by Frank O'Hara interspersed with images from the exhibition. It was held November 24 through December 24, 1959, at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, a very important player in the New York School of painting and poetry. The exhibition featured Oranges (eight oils on paper by Hartigan); Stones (12 lithographs by Rivers and O'Hara); portraits of O'Hara by both Hartigan and Rivers; and a portfolio of lithographs from the press of Universal Limited Art Editions. A rather uncommon bit of New York School ephemera. SCARCE. Item #1448
