New York: American Youth for Democracy, [1944]. Single newsprint sheet folded to create four pages measuring 9 x 12 inches (228 x 305 mm). A few nicks along the edges, pages heavily toned, somewhat brittle. A Very Good copy. Rare pamphlet consisting of 10 newspaper-style articles advocating integration of the U.S. armed forces and pointing out acts of heroism by African-American soldiers. The final page is a petition, addressed to Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson and Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox, calling for equal treatment of African-American military personnel. The organization issuing this leaflet, American Youth for Democracy, was controlled by the Communist Party and was previously known as the Young Communist League.
