This issue features an interview with Duke Ellington, who criticizes a production of "Porgy and Bess," a profile of the actor James Cagney, an article by Archibald MacLeish on poetry in the theatre, and more. The cover shows a photo of Harold Clurman (mistakenly called Clurmon), Stella Adler, and Clifford Odets on the set of Odets's play, "Paradise Lost."
Copies of New Theatre are becoming increasingly scarce in the book trade.
