New York: The New Theatre League and New Dance League, 1935. First Edition.

An issue of this influential left-wing magazine devoted to the performing arts during the Depression. New Theatre was close to the Communist Party USA.

This issue features the complete text of Albert Maltz's one-act play, "Private Hicks," in which a soldier refuses to follow orders to shoot striking workers; a letter from Hallie Flanagan about the new Federal Theatre Project; a review of Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times"; and more.
