Eliot's play about a couple's faltering marriage and their successful attempt at reviving it. From the library of Max Fould-Springer (1906-1999) at the Abbey Palace of Royaumont north of Paris. Inscribed "Fould-Springer" on the front end paper and "50.--" underneath, the 50 referring either to the year he bought the book or the price he paid in French francs. The play premiered at the Edinburgh Festival, August 22-27, 1949, with Alec Guinness playing the Unidentified Guest. On Broadway the next year, it won a Tony award as best play. Item #2057
CONDITION: Bump to upper board, small ticket of French booksellers Galignani to front paste down, end papers lightly toned. The unclipped dust jacket has a bit of rubbing, a closed tear at the top of the front panel where it meets the spine, and a couple of small nicks and light soiling. Spine lightly sunned. Overall, a Very Good or better copy.
