[Prospectus for] La Ville: Cent Gravures Sur Bois
Belvès, France: Pierre Vorms, Éditeur, 1962.
Single sheet folded at top to create a flap containing text on both sides of the flap. 10 1/8 x 7 1/4 inches (258 x 185 mm) when folded.
A rare prospectus for the third edition of Frans Masereel's wordless novel, La Ville. The clever design consists of a single sheet folded at the top quarter of the page so that the recto of the flap denotes the author and title while the verso details the book's publishing history and makes a pitch for the book. (Text entirely in French.) A striking woodcut from the book fills the remaining three-quarters of the page.
OCLC shows a handful of institutional holdings of the book itself, but none for this prospectus. None in commerce (May 2021). RARE.
CONDITION: Some soiling and creasing to the sheet, closed tear of 1 inch (20 mm) to right edge underneath flap, not affecting any text. A Very Good copy of this rare prospectus. Item #2161
Price: $100.00
