Recollections of My Life as a Woman: The New York Years
New York: Viking Penguin, 2001. First Edition, First Printing.
SIGNED by Diane di Prima on the title page. The poet's memoir of the first three decades of her life, written in her easy, conversational style.
Di Prima (1934-2020) tells about growing up in Brooklyn and then getting involved with the Beats in Manhattan. She was a founder of the New York Poets Theatre and edited The Floating Bear literary journal.
Di Prima writes frankly about her relationship with LeRoi Jones (who later became Amiri Baraka), and the various poets and artists in her wide circle of friends. A terrific memoir by a poet who lived life on her own terms.
