Small 4to (9 3/4 inches / 25 cm tall), plain wrappers printed in red and black. No. 107 on Vélin d'Arches, from a total edition of 155. Mild edgewear, otherwise Fine. A striking collection of woodcuts by the great Belgian graphic artist, Frans Masereel (1889-1972), all on the theme of étalages, or shop windows. Many of the woodcuts depict surprising scenes, such as mermaids, monkeys, or coffins in shop windows. There were no other copies of this book in commerce as of November 1, 2016. SCARCE. Item #479

The publisher, Pierre Vorms, was a friend of Frans Masereel's and published numerous books featuring Masereel's woodcuts. Vorms also was co-editor of the Masereel catalogue raisonné, published by Fonds Mercator in Antwerp in 1976.
