Paris: Buchet/Chastel, 1958. First French Edition. INSCRIBED by Richard Wright on the half title. Octavo, 337 pages in wrappers. A Near Fine, unread copy of the first French edition, INSCRIBED to the French journalist and literary critic, Gilbert Guilleminault: "A / M. Gilbert Guilleminault / Homage de l'auteur / Richard Wright." This is a review copy; the letters S.P. (for Service de Presse) are embossed on the rear cover. The pages are uncut at the top. They are also age-toned, as is often the case with French soft-cover books from more than 50 years ago. There's a very small tear at the top right corner of the front free end paper. Signed copies of this book, in any language, are extremely scarce in the market. Item #551
Espagne Païenne was first published as "Pagan Spain" in the U.S. in 1957. A very critical look at Spain under Franco and the influence of Catholicism.
